February 24th is National Chili Day!

February is the month to spice things up, in the kitchen, of course. February 24th is National Chili Month, and our team at Main Course Market is here to celebrate by sharing a great recipe involving chilis! Are you hosting an event for Valentine’s Day and don’t have the time to cook for all of your guests? We have that covered too! At The Main Course Market, we also offer catering in Boston. That means that no event will be left uncatered to.

Now let’s look at this classic chili recipe. Here are some of the ingredients you can pick up at Main Course Market to make this dish.

  • A diced onion
  • Green Pepper cut into small chunks.
  • Olive Oil: To Sautè the onions, bell pepper, and cloves.
  • Garlic Cloves (fresh or jarred)
  • Ground Beef (choose lean beef for less grease)
  • Beef broth to add more flavor
  • Tomato for the sauce and tomato chucks
  • Beans
  • Chili powder, oregano, cumin, coriander, salt, and cayenne pepper for seasoning. These will give the chili a sweet, savory flavor with a bit of added heat.

Directions

This is a “dump and go” recipe that only needs one pot to create! That makes it perfect for a quick meal for a busy week.

Sautè and cook the beef

In a large pot, mix together the olive oil with onion, garlic, and bell pepper, sautè them until they are tender. Then, throw in your beef and brown it, making sure that the beef is crumbled.

Add in all of the remaining ingredients.

Add the broth, sauce, diced tomatoes, spices, and beans.

Boil

Bring the chili to a boil and reduce the heat to a simmer. This will allow the chili to thicken and all of the flavors to combine and mix with each other. Make sure that you leave the pot on simmer for about 30 minutes.

Topping your chili

There are many things that you can top your chili with that will add a ton of flavor to your meal. You can try things like avocado, sour cream, cheese, chips, lime, peppers, and so much more. The possibilities are almost endless!
